Biafra: Ojukwu and I, agreed that Nigeria must remain one united Nation - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari through his national broadcast this morning, August 21, 2017 – has revealed that he and the late Biafran general agreed that Nigeria will not disintegrate.

The president said before Ojukwu died, both of them came to conclusion that there will be nothing like the dissolution of the country, that it will remain one indivisible nation.

Buhari was reacting following the calls for a Biafran nation by the members of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

In his broadcast this morning while addressing the nation after spending over 103 days on medical vacation in London, UK.

Buhari, in part of his national address said;

In 2003 after I joined partisan politics, the late Chief Emeka Ojukwu came and stayed as my guest in my hometown Daura. Over two days we discussed in great depth till late into the night and analyzed the problems of Nigeria. We both came to the conclusion that the country must remain one and united.

Nigeria’s unity is settled and not negotiable. We shall not allow irresponsible elements to start trouble, and when things get bad they run away and saddle others with the responsibility of bringing back order, if necessary with their blood.

Every Nigerian has the right to live and pursue his business anywhere in Nigeria without let or hindrance, President Buhari added.

Meanwhile, the members of IPOB led by Nnamdi Kanu have called on the International community and United Nation to conduct a referendum in Nigeria to determine if the people of Biafra will stay in Nigeria or go their separate ways.

But the vice President, Yemi Osinbajo in one of his key address said referendum is not in anywhere written in the Nigeria constitution, thereby anyone calling for that is committing a treasonable offence.
