Quit Notice: ONICCIMA speaks on alleged selling of Onitsha Central Mosque

The President, Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ONICCIMA), Pharmacist Uchenna Apakama, has condemned the social media report alleging that the Onitsha Central Mosque has been purchased from the Muslim community.

He noted that the audio clip circulating the allegation, also  alleged that the muslims in the state are preparing to re-locate from Onitsha due to the recent ultimatum given to the Igbos to leave the north by October 1, 2017.

Addressing newsmen in Onitsha, on Wednesday, Apakama, who was represented by the body’s President- elect, Donatus Ebubogu, described the report as nothing but a farce, calling on the general public to disregard the rumor.

He stated that none of its members ever contemplated on such transaction nor carried it out, describing the purveyors of that baseless information as mischief makers and idle minds who are out to create needless confusion and tension in the state.

Reacting to the development, the Vice President, Public Relations Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Okechukwu Anene, reiterated that ONICCIMA remains the voice of the organized private sector which ceaselessly champions a peaceful society and a conducive environment for business growth for its members.

“Hence the need to provide the public with the true fact of the matter to avoid any misguided interpretation that could jeopardize the peace and security of Onitsha and the entire state.” he added.

Also speaking, a member of the chamber, Obianika Okafor, noted that their company never had any discussion with the leader of the Hausa community in Onitsha regarding the said Mosque, describing the allegation as mischievous and false.
