Anambra election: Ekwueme, Ohanaeze, zone seat to Obiano’s district

A former vice president, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, and the first civilian governor of Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, have endorsed the zoning of the seat for the November governorship election in the state to the northern senatorial district.

They said the decision to allow the zone, where the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano hails from, was to give him the opportunity to serve for a second term of four years.

Addressing a press conference in Awka, the Anambra State President of Ohanaeze, Chief Damian Okeke, argued that since the northern zone was currently occupying the position, it should be allowed to complete its eight years uninterrupted tenure as recommended by the Anambra stakeholders during a recent meeting.

Okeke urged political parties contesting in the election to embrace the zoning initiative by choosing their candidates for the election from Anambra North Senatorial zone.

Okeke said: “We interfaced with traditional rulers, presidents’ general of town unions and members of their respective executives and other stakeholders at the senatorial district level, and later met with the traditional rulers at the state level, during which the Obi of Onitsha and chairman of the state traditional rulers’ council, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, presided.

“We also consulted the women wing of the town unions, youth leaders and elder statesmen, including former vice president, Dr. Alex Ekwueme and first civilian governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife,” he said.
