Anambra: Court sacks Agbaso, reinstates Oye as APGA national chairman

L-R: Mr. Victor Oye and Martin Agbaso

An Anambra High Court presided over by Justice Dennis Maduechesi has sacked Mr. Martin Agbaso as the national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

The court described him as an impostor.

Agbaso was declared the national chairman of the party through an order of mandamus granted by Justice A.R Ozoemena of the Enugu High Court on May 22.

The mandamus ordered the police and the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise Agbaso in all their dealings with the party.

But the Anambra High court on Friday reinstated Victor Oye as the authentic chairman of APGA.

In the suit filed by Oye and the All Progressives Grand Alliance, the plaintiffs had asked the court to nullify the purported removal of Oye as the national chairman of the party.

Delivering his judgment, Justice Maduechesi described the  actions of  Dr. Chuks Achusi and the national working committee of APGA , who participated in the meeting that purportedly removed Oye as chairman of APGA, as “null, void and of no effect.”

The court said that only the national convention of the party could remove the chairman or suspend him.

Reacting to the judgement on Saturday, Oye commended the judiciary for its role in enhancing democracy in the country.
