On 30th May 2017, the Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu paid a visit to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The governor, while addressing the newsmen, said; I was in the Villa on the invitation of the Acting President who is very keen on the socioeconomic development going on in Abia State especially as it concerns MSMEs in Aba.
He claimed that the federal government is seeking ways to partner with the State Government to fully return Aba, the commercial capital of Abia State, as a major thriving economic and industrial zone.
Ikpeazu stated the above while addressing the newsmen, but the truth has finally been revealed, according to various online news medium, Ikpeazu’s visit to Osinbajo is to help him secure a foreign loan worth $100 Million which is about N31 Billion from African Development Bank and Islamic bank.
Abacityblog recalled that Ikpeazu had few days ago vowed to clear off the salary arrears owed to the state civil servants before the end of July this year.
However, the foreign loan which the governor used a N310 as a benchmark has been forwarded in a letter to the National Assembly without the consent of Abia State House of Assembly.
When contacted some House of Assembly members who want to remain anonymous to verify the information, the members were obviously surprised with information and they maintained ignorant of the development.
Abia Facts quoted one member of the House as saying; “I have not heard anything about a $100M loan, it was not presented before us and I am very sure no House member knows about this. This is unacceptable, the governor cannot and will not secure such loan without our consent and I hope he understands that because if he makes such mistake he should be aware of the consequences”.
“Even though we are of the same party, he will be surprised the way we will resist him and even go further to shock him. I hope he does not make such mistake “he concluded.
