A report had it that there was a serious shooting in Ohafia LGA, Abia State, yesterday, which led the workers in the vicinity scampered for safety.

An eyewitness account gathered, that the conflict is as a result of a leadership tussle between Councillors loyal to the Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, and that of the State attorney general who were selected  during the last Local Government election.

Today the 16th Day of May 2016 at Plenary, Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu moved a motion of Urgent public importance mandating the Abia State House of Assembly to invoke the sections of Abia State of Nigeria Local Government Law No 2 of 2006 -which authorize the House to take over any Local Government Legislative Council that fails to carry out it’s legislative function for a period of three months. This was necessitated by the following;

1) that the Ohafia Legislative Council has been having series of leadership crisis for the past six months;

2) that there are reports of physical confrontation amongst the Councilors.
3) that due to this crisis, the Councilors have failed to perform their duties for which they were elected.
The House upon the receipt of the motion, suspended the Ohafia Legislative Council pending when the contentious issues are resolved amicably.
Note that this move was necessary in order to avert break down of Law and possible loss of lives and property. In the overall interest of Ohafia Local Government, this move will by God’s grace institute a lasting peace that will promote the development of our Local Government.
