Abia State

Major markets in Aba, the commercial city of Abia State were today, Monday, 15th May, 2017, shutdown for a solidarity over Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s court victory.

Recall that Ikpeazu came out victorious on Friday 12th May, 2017, as he won a court case between him and his rivalry, Dr. Uche Sampson Ogah who dragged him (Ikpeazu) to court over allegation of falsification of tax papers.

Dr Ogah lost the case after the apex court dismissed his appeal with costs and insisted that the tax matter shouldn’t have been an issue since the Governor’s tax was deducted at source for the period under contention.

Following the court victory, a report has it that, despite he (Ikpeazu)  had his thanksgiving at the state house after he was announced the rightful winner at the Abuja apex court, he indirectly ordered all markets in Aba to shut down, to celebrate with him at the state house Umuahia, the celebration galore which later moved to Aba Township Hall, in Aba South, an area of the state, was indeed a total celebration as roads are blocked with the mammoth of the crowd, cheering and dancing.

But, the celebration was not the problem, the major issue is the order for the total shutdown of the market in Aba, which in actual sense, does not make any sense.

Traders bemoan such order, as at when AbaCityBlog visited Ariaria International Market, it looked like a ghost town, as shops are locked, leaving some traders buying and selling along the expressway, as the main entrance into the market were locked.

An eyewitness told us that such development took place in Ahia Ohuru (New Market), Bakassi shoe plaza, Cemetry and lots of other markets in Aba.

Our Thought:

Celebrating the governor’s victory isn’t a bad idea, but shutting down the entire city for a mere celebration of court case is something else.

Is Abia being ruled by an emperor?

Once again, congratulations Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu for your victory at the supreme court, but shutting down businesses in Aba for a mere celebration is a total bad impression.
