APGA national chairman, Nwabueze Okafor, dies at 47


A factional national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Ozo Nwabueze Okafor is dead.

He died yesterday morning during a brief ill­ness at the age of 47.

Okpochengene, as Okafor is fondly called, passed on at Niger foun­dation hospital Enugu af­ter brief illness.

In 2015, Okafor con­tested for Senate in Enugu East senatorial district under the plat-form of APGA but lost to his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, counterpart, Sen Gil Nnaji.

Shortly after the elec­tion, Okafor was nominat­ed as the APGA National Vice Chairman (South East) before he assumed the acting national chair­man of the party when Ike Oye was suspended by the national executive com­mittee of the party.

Rumour of Okafor’s death spread across Enu­gu, his home state on Sun­day afternoon.

His ally and political associate, the Assistant National Financial Sec­retary of APGA, Oke­checkwu Nkolagu, who confirmed his death, said he (Okafor) died at about 8am on Sunday.
