(PHOTOS): Keke (Tricycle) Operators In Aba Protest Against Extortion of N50 by Police


Barely one week after the Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu met with the Abia State Amalgamated Tricycle Operators Association (ASATOA) in Aba, extended their time of operation from 7pm to 9pm. Reports have it that the policemen in Aba had been busy, illegally extorting money from the Keke operators, chasing after them once its half past 7 every evening.

Abacityblog recalled that, Gov Ikpeazu was on Tuesday 2nd August, reversed the ban on the time of operation for tricycle operators popularly known as keke, In order to ease the burden of transportation and also elongate the business hours in Aba and Umuahia.

But, a Keke Operator who reported to us about the money extortion, stated that the police has been busy extorting N50, from each operator, which sparked the protest today in Aba.

As at the time of filing this report, the Keke operators begin the protest from Semetary Junction Axis of Aba South, down to Aba Owerri Road, Aba.

They were carrying placards written, “N50 is too much for Police Live Keke Alone”, “No more 50Naira for police henceforth”, etc.

Abacityblog urged the government officials to look into this, and take a proper action.
